Last time we discussed about how importance of breastfeeding our babies for six months
Today we shall look at breastfeed latch..
The most important part of breastfeeding is the latch and if the baby is not properly latch on to your breast feeding could be painful.
The position in which you hold your baby is also crucial. When a good position and latch is obtained breastfeeding can be a wonderful experience between mother and baby
Once you get accustomed to positioning your baby and helping him or her get a good latch breastfeeding can be wonderful pain free bonding experience between mother and baby.
Breastfeeding may cause your nipple to be sore. While correcting the latch will make a difference for you long term comfort it may prove helpful to use nipple cream to ease soreness immediately.
Signs that confirm a good latched
1.The tongue is seen when the bottom lip is pulled down
2.Ear wiggles
3.circular movement of the jaw rather than rapid chin movement
4.checks rounded
5.you don't hear a clicking or smacking noises
6.You can hear swallowing
7.Chin is touching your breast
8. When your baby comes off the breast the nipple is not flattened or misshaped.
9.Any discomfort ends quickly after getting the baby latched on
10.Your baby ends the feeling with signs of satisfy/satisfaction.This when baby relaxed (falls) off the breast has open hand and or falls a sleep.
Note
Breastfeeding shouldn't be painful. A good latch will help keep discomfort to a minimum. When the baby has not latched on well other problems can develop including cracked and sore nipple.
